May 7 –
Show day and still in Venice. I decided not to go into Venice today as I think I saw about as much as I could and I needed to get some laundry done and work out, so that’s what I did.
I felt like the show was my best so far. I was MUCH more comfortable and wasn’t “thinking” so much and performing more. During the opening number my right heel fell off. It was a very odd feeling as I felt like I stepped into a hole on stage. Luckily there was a pair of dance sneakers in the dressing room. They were about a size too small, but better than limping around stage all night.
If I haven’t mentioned it yet, we use in ear monitors. For those of you who don’t know what those are, they are basically fancy ear buds that you would use on your Ipod or mp3 player. We had a sound check earlier in the day and everything was fine. We normally would do a spot check again about an hour before the show, but due to a scheduling mix up, we did not have the opportunity and what I was hearing was much different. It was painfully loud and I have no control over it once the show starts, except to ask a stage hand to relay a message to the audio technician. Our stage hands don’t speak English very well, so there was some difficulty relaying the message. By the end of the show it was almost bearable. All that being said, we received glowing remarks from the guests.
After the show the singers met to discuss a variety show that we will be putting on this cruise. I have chosen All of Me (ala Frank S.) and Bless the Broken Road by Rascall Flatts. I’m hoping to get good dvd copies!!!
